Not only is he focused on earning a degree in agronomy, but he also aspires to share his knowledge and love of farming with people both in and outside of the agricultural industry. Meet Brandon Boyd, one
of six recipients of this year's WROF, Inc. Premier Program of Scholarship Awards!
"Working on the family farm has taught me that I really enjoy the crop portion of our farm and that I
want to learn how to maximize crop production and learn to improve all aspects of crop production," says Brandon. Brandon's family raises beef cattle, in addition to growing crops, in southeastern Wisconsin. Helping out on the farm has also fortified Brandon's love of agriculture. Brandon is well-versed in the challenges of raising crops. In addition to raising his own cattle and poultry, Brandon grows 10 acres of soy and corn on a crop rotation. He has experienced the devastation of losing
crops because of flooding. This experience has taught Brandon to never give up and to work harder to get better. Brandon says that he eventually wants to teach farmers how to improve their agricultural practices. Graduating from a semi-rural high school has also encouraged Brandon to teach people outside the industry about agriculture and where their food comes from.
From making kitty cuddle blankets at the local humane society to being incredibly involved with the local FFA and 4-H organizations, Brandon is a huge part of his community, helping out wherever he can. He recently attended the Wisconsin FFA convention where he received his State FFA degree and placed
second in Wisconsin for his SAE proficiency in the area of Diversified Crop Production.
This summer he plans to enjoy small moments of free time before starting college. Brandon says he
is working with and getting his show steer ready for the Dodge County Fair, where he'll end his busy summer exhibiting. He is also helping out on several farms, including his family's and the Tietz Family Farms - and umping for local youth-level baseball games!
Please join us in congratulating Brandon Boyd!
