Clear Old Yahoo Addresses Off Your List

In the next 4 days, all email campaigns need to take this step.

Yahoo is closing email accounts - specifically ones that haven't been logged into in 12 months or longer. Yahoo will then release these addresses for the public to claim.

This could affect some of the addresses on your own list. Those subscribers won't be valid after July 15.

Before that happens, you need to:

Unsubscribe All Unresponsive Yahoo Addresses
Yahoo email addresses on your list that haven't opened an email from you in 12 months are very likely to be among those released.

Other people who are not on your list are very likely to claim these addresses. If the addresses are still on your list, the new owners will start getting your newsletters.

The new owners won't expect your emails. They will either unsubscribe or mark you as spam. The latter can negatively affect whether ISPs such as Gmail and Outlook accept your emails.

If the released addresses go unclaimed, your emails to those addresses will bounce. This can also impact your deliverability.

Here's The Fix
Note: This feature is only available to customers with the full AWeber service. If you have an older AWeber account (prior to June 2008), you're only paying for the basic features. You can upgrade to get AWesome features that allow you to see who exactly is opening your emails, clicking on links, and more. AWeber is one of few services that provides this much insight on subscriber activity, and we highly recommend contacting us to upgrade if you have not already.

First, you need to identify what email addresses on your list will be released. Search subscribers from Yahoo who haven't opened an email from you in 12 months. Save them as a segment.

(Note: You should add the criteria "date added before" and choose a somewhat recent date. That way, new subscribers who haven't had the chance to open an email yet won't be lumped in with inactives.)

Send a win-back email to this segment first to make sure they're truly inactive. Then, you can delete all the unresponsive addresses from your list with just one click.
