Time Is On Your Side

Hi Every One!
One of our most favorite experiences being in the North Georgia mountains is the morning greeting we receive by our local winged friends. Every day, like clockwork, no later than 4 minutes after sunrise, the birdies start calling us. They want to make sure we are up and moving. Their circadian rhythm is really impressive. They must have really healthy mitochondrial function. :-) And yes, indeed, they do!
So the natural question arises... What does that mean to us? What about our own circadian rhythm?
As the Rolling Stones said, on one of their hit songs, "Time Is On My Side". They were correct. Our circadian rhythm is determined by the health of our mitochondria.
- If you cannot fall asleep, it is due to unhealthy mitochondria, not due to your anxiety or any other such label.
- If you wake up in the middle of the night and cannot fall back asleep, it is due to unhealthy mitochondria, not due to your stress or any other such label.
- If you cannot wake up easily, it is due to unhealthy mitochondria, not due to laziness or any other such label.
You can think of your mitochondria as your internal clock. The health of your mitochondria is the root cause of all of the above symptoms.
Now what?
The first and foremost requirement for proper mitochondrial health is hydration! Yes, it is as simple as that. Dehydration is critical to mitochondrial function. Your metabolic rate declines tremendously when you are dehydrated for any reason.
Hydration does not have one to one correspondence with water. Hydration means electrolytes! The mitochondria need electrons!
So if you want time on your side, this is an easy way to start helping your mitochondria.
Our infamous "Hot Yoga's Margarita" recipe:
- 8 oz filtered water, preferably room temperature
- 1/4 tsp Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt
- 1 tbsp lime or lemon juice; use lime when it's warmer outside, use lemon when it's cooler outside
- a few dollops of local raw honey
Always, adjust to taste. You can even make a large batch and keep it in the fridge. Each day, you take out just what you are going to drink, let it come to room temperature and enjoy. Tim says that it always tastes better in a margarita glass. :-)
You know the drill, make sure you check with your medical professional, don't ingest anything you are allergic to, and use common sense.
One more time, good, clean electrolytes is what feeds your mitochondria, your internal time keepers!
Speaking of time, we are testing the best time for our newsletter. We know that Friday morning is not a good time for it. :-)
Here is the one we sent out last week Friday morning that most people did not get to read: Did You Work Out Today? Next test is, Thursday 6 p.m. EST vs Friday 5:00 p.m. EST? :-)
Until next time... The Rolling Stones | Time Is On My Side
Much much love from both of us!
Na’maste Kala! (Which in Greek means, may we all be well!)
