Greetings!

If you are reading this newsletter, you are probably a Clyde Hart fan, or at least interested in his training methods. His resume at the NCAA and Olympic level proves his method works. I’ve seen Clyde in person at several conferences, and the room is always silent with his stories and examples whenever he talks about his training workouts.

As a reminder, here is his 60 page training plan when you signed up.

For videos of his training, he just released 2 videos courtesy of Championship Productions.

The first video is titled Clyde Hart’s 200/400M Sprint Training Program and it’s over 3 hours long spanning 2 DVDs.

He goes though periodization with detailed pre-season and in-season training plans for the long sprints. It’s the same training plan used for Michael Johnson, Jeremy Wariner and Sanya Richards!

The focus is on training, techniques and racing strategy, as well as specific types of workouts and drills. The best part of the video is footage of an actual live workout setting.

The second video is titled Clyde Hart’s Speed Development for Track & Field and this DVD is almost 2 hours long.

He discusses the proper movements and mechanics for sprinter, everything from hand and arm movements to foot strike and stride length, stride rate, relaxation, and the mental game!

He also describes his “Speed Makers” and “Event 300's” workouts (as seen in the manual), plus he goes through a detailed warm up routine. (Remember, the warm up is part of the workout!)

Whether you coach your sprinters long-to-short, or short-to-long, you will definitely learn something from these videos.

Yohan Blake 19.26 splits and Why he will beat Usain Bolt

I created a bit of controversy when I wrote an article with detailed 100m splits from Michael Johnson’s 19.32, both of Usain Bolt's WR (19.30 and 19.19) and Yohan’s recent 19.26. No other web site has covered the 100 meter splits in detail.

Based on the shocking numbers, I made a bold prediction Blake will win the London 2012 Olympic 200 meters, assuming he survives the rounds and stays injury free.

Training for the 400 meters: A Retrospect
2012-01-20 07:00:00-05

One of the earliest papers I read on 400 meter training was written by William Black from the 1988 Winter edition of TRACK COACH. You can download the PDF here (168Kb). The paper talks about the physiological factors of performance in the 400 meters, and one specific reference was from 1980.  It’s a good read [...]
