  • Best of October 2011

Greetings / Salve,

Next to creating annual training plans and workouts, one of the most common question I get by email is “Why are Jamaicans so fast”?

2.8 Million people compared to 312 million, and EACH country had 7 men go under 10.00 seconds this year?

So I wrote a series of articles based on interviews with Stephen Francis and Glen Mills, and it eventually became the size of an ebook (36 pages).  This material is not on the Blog, and I gave the report away to all newsletter subscribers at no cost.

It’s a multi-part report, where it includes:

  1. Stephen Francis Training Philosophies
  2. Glen Mills Training Philosophies
  3. Glen Mills 2009 Interview from IAAF NSA
  4. Stephen Francis for 100mH guide to breaking 13 seconds

If you missed it, here is the link to download the ebook (PDF, 1.5 Mb):

More on Ergogenic Aids

If you enjoyed the multipart series on Ethical cheating, here is the short list with more to come.

  1. ESPN radio interview.
  2. History of Ethical Cheating or Ergogenic Aids
  3. Coffee, caffeine, and mild stimulants
  4. Nootropics: RedBull, 5 Hour Energy Shots, phenylalanines including Tyrosine
  5. Lactic acid buffers: Baking soda, TUMS, and beta alanine
  6. Viagra and other Nitric Oxide as vasodilators

You’ll also like this additional research paper that downplays RedBull.  Their conclusion is interesting.

Best of October

As always, here is the best articles for October 2011.

Enjoy,

Reaction Time Differences in Men and Women
2011-10-26 04:00:00-04

Men have an unfair advantage over women because of their strength and size.  That’s why the events are separated by gender, and Para-Olympians have their own games. Because of this, we have the women’s throwing events using lighter implements. We have the women’s hurdles at lower heights than men and with shorter spacing in the high hurdles [...]
